Arrested Over Discipline

This is why I stay away from the news. When I read it, all I could think was

  • Really?!?!?!
  • The daughter sounds like a spoiled brat and a momma’s girl.

So the gist of the story is

A father was arrested and charged with property theft because he took away his 12 year old daughter’s phone and wouldn’t give it back. Why did he take it? Because the daughter texted her friends that she didn’t like her dad’s new ‘ratchet’ girlfriend and her kids. Ratchet means low class, clueless diva. Due to the disrespect, the father immediately confiscated the phone. When the daughter’s mom picked her up, the dad made the choice to keep the phone.

Now, the daughter’s mom and her cop fiancée purchased the phone. However, the dad was paying for usage of the phone so technically, I believe he had every right to keep it. Of course, maybe the best thing would have been to give the daughter back the phone and cancel her plan.

As it turns out, charges against the father are being dropped. However, the daughter, now 15, is apparently devastated and heartbroken at her father’s discipline tactics. So she is going to court asking her father to relinquish her rights so her step dad can adopt her.

I mean really?!?!!?! Over a phone?!?!?!?! COME ON!!!!

I don’t know this family. But I do know parents, including myself who have taken items from our kids as discipline. Some have been returned. Some have been given away to charity. I am sure some have even been thrown away.

I guess, in this day and age, parents are no longer allowed to step in and discipline. I mean the dad could have beaten her. Instead he took away a device he felt was being used improperly. And, I bet this is not the first or the last time, the daughter texted something disrespectful about someone.

What a shame the father had to endure what he did. However, karma does bite. And it does appear the daughter is growing up to be more ratchet than her dad’s girlfriend.
