How To Be Happy

Here is my list of how to be happy…

  1. Quit watching the news.
    • I only watch the weather portion then turn it right off.
  2. Start a gratitude journal and list everything, even the tiny stuff, of things and people you are grateful for.
  3. Download inspirational music and listen to it throughout your day.
    • Some songs I listen to include:

  4. Start an inspirational quote journal. Add one quote per day.
    • I used some of Christmas money to buy one for this year.
  5. Watch inspirational programs like The Story Trek on BYUtv, Super Soul Sunday & Super Soul Sessions on OWN.
  6. Go to a park and take a walk.
  7. Wake up on the left side of the bed. A study of 1,000 people in the UK found 7% woke up more grumpy when waking up on the right side of the bed. They were also more likely to lose their job.
  8. Set your alarm a half hour early and use that extra time to sit in peace and quiet to mediate.
  9. Wake up early on the weekend and go for a drive.
  10. Do something new every week like read a new author, eat at a new restaurant, try a different hair do, instead of walking – jog, shop at a different store, take a different route home. Mix it up!!!
  11. Volunteer. Yes, it has been proven helping others makes us realize just how good we have it.
  12. Associate with people who support you, are positive and accept you just as you are.
  13. LIVE OUT LOUD – this is especially fun if you have kids. I love seeing mine, even though they are adults, cringe when I act wacky in public, which is pretty much a given when they go out with me.
  14. Find something to laugh about at least 3x times a day. Your stress hormones will decrease, immune cells will increase and endorphins will be released. All great benefits!!
  15. Get a cat. I know, I know for you dog people, this may be hard. But there is no better stress reliever than 4 paws and a purr. Plus, they never have to be walked!
  16. Get a dog. They are always happy, love to go for walks, and are great listeners.
  17. If something or someone is bothering you, talk ABOUT IT to someone you trust. Don’t hold in grudges, frustrations or anger. It will only get worse.
  18. Hug your loved ones at least 2x a day.
  19. Instead of worrying, pray and remember things always work out.
  20. Put on your jammies, turn off your phone and computer and take a nap. Ahhhhh, it will feel so good and you will feel so refreshed.
  21. Go to bed at 8:30 pm. Yes, for some of you that might be earlier than your kids. So? Extended sleep is a bonus. And you may not need that extra cup of joe when you get up.

  22. Be happy and thankful everyday you are alive and well. Think of it as having a Birthday every day! Instead, you could be manure for the flowers.
